FREDERICTON, NB—The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce its annual post-secondary scholarship recipients for 2023: Isabella Quinn, Lila van Driel, and Charles Crowther. The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce awards this scholarship to a full or part time employee of a member in good standing of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce; or to the child, spouse or partner of a member or their employee. 

“We’ve been awarding our annual scholarship for over 10 years now and it’s an initiative our organization is very proud of and one of those activities that is a reminder of our organziational vision: Stronger Community Through Business Prosperity,” said Krista Ross, Fredericton Chamber of Commerce CEO. “It is also a way for us to stay engaged with our past as the selection committee comprises a group of chamber past presidents.” 

The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce’s scholarship was created in 2013 to recognize a deserving student who has made a positive contribution to the betterment of their school and community, while demonstrating sound academic achievement. The fund is held and managed by the Fredericton Community Foundation. 

“The chamber views our scholarship as a way to celebrate leaders and high achievers in our region,” added the chamber’s president, Mike Melvin. “Each of these candidates has demonstrated high academic achievement, extensive volunteer work and a strong work ethic – we are very proud to recognize these youth in our community.” 

Bios 

A 2023 graduate of Fredericton High School, Isabella is heading to the University of Galway in Ireland at the Faculty of Medicine in September. She has maintained at 98% through high school while maintaining a busy schedule with athletics, volunteering and working part-time. Some of her volunteer activities include Hospice House Fredericton, Kat’s Kitchen, coaching younger athletes and being a Duke of Edinburgh program participant.  

Lila, also a 2023 Fredericton High School graduate, plans to attend the University of New Brunswick in the fall, majoring in Business Administration. Her extensive volunteer experience includes refereeing, Kat’s Kitchen, Red’s Volleyball and the Grad Class Committee for Fredericton High School. Her first work experience was as a scorekeeper at George Street Middle School, and she has worked part-time since then while maintaining athletic excellence. 

Charles, a 2023 graduate of Leo Hayes High School, is attending Dalhousie university in September to study commerce and compete on the varsity men’s soccer team. Throughout his high school career, he maintained at 4.0 GPA while competing at a high level on multiple sports teams, including at the Canada Games with the New Brunswick soccer team. He also started a successful small business in high school and plans to pursue entrepreneurship after graduation.
