Election Activities Policy

Background

The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce engages in pre-election activities at all levels of government, including events with candidates such as presentation series and debates. This policy is to provide guidance and objective criteria to determine which parties should be invited to participate in our pre-election events at the provincial and federal levels.

The chamber will invite parties to its pre-election events that meet the following criteria:

  1. Candidates affiliated with a political party who are running for office in a Fredericton-area electoral district in a provincial or federal election will be invited to participate in election events if:
    1. the candidate’s party:
      1. Has currently sitting members in the Legislature/House of Commons; or
      2. Received 5% or more of the popular vote in the last election; or
      3. Is polling at 5% or more of popular support in New Brunswick in an independent poll at the time candidates are being invited to participate in the election event; and
    2. In the current election, the candidate’s party is running candidates in 50% or more of the ridings in New Brunswick.
  2. Independent candidates running for office in a Fredericton-area electoral district in a provincial or federal election will be invited to participate in election events if they are an incumbent or are polling at 5% or more of popular support in their electoral district in an independent poll at the time candidates are being invited to participate in the election event.
