Interview with Matthew McQuinn

Can you tell me a bit about how your business began?

I founded coldlytics.com with Richard Francis who’s based in London, UK. We met in a thread on Reddit for startups to find other cofounders called r/cofounders. His expertise is in development and mine is in sales and marketing so we compliment each other’s skill sets very well. We built Coldlytics to provide fresh, human researched leads lists for B2B marketers.

Matthew McQuinn

Tell me about your business and what does your business do?

Coldlytics began in early 2020 and was built to solve the biggest problem I’d experienced running operations for a digital marketing company; good data. Having sent over 3 million cold emails, I’ve experienced the difference between a freshly researched list and database that all my competitors were also selling to. It’s night and day. We solely focus on provide clean, accurate, prospect lists.

Who are your clientele, the people who use your products/services?

We provide B2B leads that are most often bought by marketing agencies or corporate sales teams who run cold email or cold calling campaigns. This is the fuel to their sales engines. If you start with poor quality leads, its going to show up in your revenue, or lack thereof. Starting with a freshly researched list for your business is akin to putting supreme fuel in a performance engine.

How many staff do you employ?

We are a fulltime team of 2 with more than 100 contracted researchers we’ve vetted and partnered with to fulfill our research needs.

Can you tell me about one of your most rewarding experiences while working here?

We’ve recently started working with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, a Berkshire Hathaway company that Warren Buffet acquired. We’ve also had the privilege of working with non profit organizations who need to reach C-Level decision makers.

What are you most proud of in your business?

We are most proud of having served over 800 marketing agencies to date. Additionally, we are actively serving clients all over the world from the US an Canada to South Africa and New Zealand. We proudly serve clients in more than 12 countries.

What kind of challenges have you experienced in your business and how were you able to overcome them?

Getting started is always the hardest part, we were able to find our first 30 customers largely through cold email campaigns using our own data.

What is one thing you wish more people knew about your business?

We are more than just a data provider. Our self serve website allows you to request leads in any primarily English speaking country and have a list returned to you from our team within 24 hours.
