Laurie Guthrie has served as a municipal employee of the City of Fredericton for 20 years. She has worked primarily in the field of economic development - undertaking various initiatives to cultivate economic growth for the City. Laurie founded the Fredericton Business Ambassador Program in 2003, and has since grown the ambassador team to 525 people. She is responsible for producing the City’s economic development tools like the promotional CD / video, economic development website, advertising and various collateral materials. She works closely with the community agencies – engaging in numerous strategic initiatives to promote investment attraction, business retention & expansion and population growth.
Laurie earned her national EcD (certified economic developer) designation in 2005 awarded by the University of Waterloo and Economic Developers Association of Canada after completing the Certificate in Economic Development. Laurie also holds a Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree from the University of New Brunswick’s (UNB). After completing half of UNB’s Masters of Business Administration program, Laurie deferred studies to focus on her children.
Through the years, Laurie has provided leadership and served on numerous fundraising and event committees like: National Caucus, i-Canada national advisory board, 1st Fredericton Wine & Food Festival (Canadian Diabetes Assoc.), 1st Lobster on the Lawn (Children’s Wish Foundation).
