Summer Cultural Projects Assistant

The City of Fredericton is inviting applications from university students for a summer position working with the Cultural Development Officer. The primary area of responsibility will include the operations and marketing of the Summer Artist in Residence Program, as well as general assistance on other arts and cultural initiatives.

The Summer Artist in Residence program is delivered at Killarney Lake Park and the Fredericton Botanic Garden during July and August.  The student will be responsible for promotion of the program, liaison with the artists, coordination of payments, onsite visits to monitor the program and deliver signage, and other details with respect to the smooth operations of the program.

When not attending to the Artist in Residency program, the successful candidate will provide general assistance on arts and cultural projects and programs including research, information gathering, updates to files and other administrative or clerical duties.  

This position works with other team members in the Recreation, Culture and Tourism office.

Skills required include:
– communications, writing, social media and marketing
– organization, prioritization, attention to details
– Microsoft Office including Teams
– office and administrative skills
– valid driver’s licence
– ability to work in a team environment
– experience in arts and culture considered an asset

The work location is at 371 Queen Street in the office of Recreation & Culture (next to City Hall) and hours will be Monday – Friday from 8:15am – 4:30pm.  The work term to commence in June and continue until September 1, 2023. Visits to the artist in residence sites requires the candidate to drive a municipal van. Mandatory driver safety training instruction will be provided.
