Position Overview

Based in Fredericton the New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS) is the voice of the medical profession in New Brunswick, providing province-wide representation and advocacy for all physicians. As the provincial division of the Canadian Medical Association, the NBMS exists to represent physicians and advocate for the health of New Brunswickers.  

NBMS Wellness provides support to physicians and their families, medical residents, and medical students who may be coping with the demands of practice, relationships, addiction, and other mental health or life challenges. The mission is to support physicians and medical learners in protecting their resiliency and finding the joy in medicine and in life.

Reporting to the Manager, NBMS Wellness, the Wellness Program Coordinator assists in the design, organization, execution and evaluation of programs related to physician health.  The NBMS Wellness Coordinator will coordinate key programs and assist in the development of new programming.

Duties and Responsibilities

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

  • coordinate key physician health and wellness programs
  • conduct research for new programs and assist in establishing and developing programs accordingly
  • provide referrals for support outside of established programs on an as needed basis
  • provide back-up clinical intervention for physicians in terms of triage, assessment, advocacy, and referrals
  • provide staff support, to the Physician Wellness committee
  • participate in the development of strategic initiatives that promote physician wellness
  • assist in developing educational and interventional initiatives / programs which address health and wellness concerns for students, residents, physicians and their family members
  • assist in preparing reports

Position Location and Hours of Work

This flexible, full-time, 35 hours per week position is located in Fredericton, New Brunswick.  For the right candidate, a home office elsewhere in New Brunswick may be considered. Work outside the normal business hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. to accommodate client needs will be required from time to time.  After-work commitments can be expected are usually predictable and planned well in advance. Flexible to travel within the province of New Brunswick and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, nursing or equivalent, or recognized background in healthcare

Language:

  • English, however, priority will be given to bilingual candidates (French/English)

Experience:

  • minimum of 3-years of project coordination experience and/or case management specific to healthcare track record of successful project delivery with effective reporting and communication on project status

 Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate appropriately with a variety of stakeholders
  • strong project coordination skills at every stage: program development (including completing needs assessments with specialized populations, developing program pilots, program descriptions, participant tracking and reporting, etc.)
  • communication and program evaluation knowledge regarding wellness issues in healthcare
  • recognized for your attention to detail, critical thinking, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize deliverables
  • knowledge of and experience in case management, and working with specialized populations
  • proven ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • proficient in Microsoft Office
  • knowledge and ability to lead effective educational sessions
  • value a positive work culture and comradery with your colleagues
  • ability to work hard and have fun
