Water & Wastewater Systems Operator

The Village of New Maryland is a vibrant community on the southern border of the Capital Region of New Brunswick. We envision substantial growth over the coming years with the development of a new wellfield. The municipal water system will be expanding with the addition of booster stations and a water treatment plant. We are currently searching for a Water & Wastewater Systems Operator to join our team and help support our Public Works staff with the expansion.  

Under the direction of the Public Works Utilities Supervisor, the incumbent will be tasked with the proper and safe operation of the Village’s water supply, water distribution, water treatment, wastewater collection and wastewater treatment. Duties include water treatment, water quality monitoring and adherence to Canadian drinking water guidelines, wastewater collection and wastewater treatment in adherence to the Village’s Approval to Operate, operation and maintenance of pumps, reservoirs, and lagoons. The position also includes the requirement for on-call duties and weekend shifts on rotation.  

Position Summary:
• Operate and maintain the water distribution and treatment systems and related equipment (ph meters, turbidity meters, spectrophotometers, etc.).
• Operate and maintain the wastewater collection and treatment systems and related equipment (ph meters, Dissolved Oxygen meters, etc.).
• Inspect and maintain wells, booster stations, lift stations, reservoirs, lagoons, and related equipment. This will include climbing significant heights and entering confined spaces.
• Maintain records and computer data entry.
• Address customer inquiries.
• Perform manual work with dexterity and competency.

Education and Experience:
Graduation from a postsecondary Engineering Technology Diploma Program. Education and applicable experience in a field related the water and wastewater industry may be considered. Candidates should be willing/able to attain certification through provincially administered programs.
Knowledge and Desired Skills:
• Valid NB Class V driver’s license;
• Well developed analytical and organizational skills;
• Ability to present reports in an efficient, neat manner using both handwritten and computerized formats;
• Well developed interpersonal skills are required; the ability to work after hours and weekends;
• Oral competency with French language skills considered an asset.

Remuneration and benefits are competitive and in compliance with the Village of New Maryland organizational policies and practices. Salary range for this position is $44,520 – $52,469.
