Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Beginning 140th Anniversary Celebrations Next Week
30 May 2014
For Immediate Release
(Fredericton, NB) – With its creation in 1874, The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, beginning with its annual general meeting on Tuesday, 3 June 2014. The chamber will highlight its long history in the communication through the year.
The official kick-off to these celebrations will be a flag raising at City Hall on Thursday, 5 June 2014 at 10:00 am. All community members are invited to come out and help celebrate.
To highlight that the chamber is a community-based organization first and foremost, it is challenging its members to complete 140 good deeds over the summer months. Volunteer Greater Fredericton is compiling a list of these good deeds that members can sign up for and complete. These will include acts as varied as donating professional services in the volunteer’s area of expertise, helping with charity work such as delivering meals, or collecting and donating items such as toys, books, gardening tools and more. Further details will be available in the coming weeks.
“Everyone involved with the chamber is really proud of our history and place in the community,” said Krista Ross, chamber CEO. “Our guiding principle is to enhance the business environment in the city, which we believe helps the community in general. We want to celebrate our accomplishments of course, but we also want to acknowledge that as individuals we get back much more from the community than we can ever give.”
This has been a year of milestones for the chamber. Along with the 140th anniversary, 2014 also saw the 40th annual State of the Province Address and the 25th annual golf tournament at Kingswood on 28 August 2014.
“More than anything, we want to celebrate all of our volunteers throughout the years,” added Janice Corey, chamber past president and chair of the 140th anniversary committee. “As an organization we rely very heavily on the support of our volunteers. Their commitment, knowledge, time and generosity has made the chamber what it is today.”
