Welcome to fall! I hope you had an enjoyable summer.
Many of the chamber committees will be starting up this month. More information on each committee is detailed on the chamber’s website. If you are interested in joining any of these committees, please contact the office. Being a member of a chamber committee is very rewarding.
Our chamber, as one of the stakeholders in Fredericton’s immigration strategy, met with The Hon. Ahmed Hussen, Federal Minister for Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada, to brief him on what we are working on as part of the five-year immigration strategy launched during Immigration month in June. We highlighted our advocacy issues, which include improvements to the application process for the Start-up visa (which is one of our policy resolutions which will be presented at the Canadian Chamber conference being held in Saint John in September).
The inaugural ladies golf tournament was a success, as was our 35th annual golf tournament held two days later. Many thanks to the sponsors of both of these events, your support of our events is much appreciated and enjoyed by the participants.
If you attend either our Business over Breakfast or Business after Hours events, you’ll notice a slight change in format this year. As directed by Corporations Canada in our Bylaw review, new members of Fredericton Chamber of Commerce must be voted in by the membership (current practice is approval at board level), therefore we will be including the voting of new members at these networking events. This is also a great opportunity for our new members to meet our existing members in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The governance committee had to make a few modifications to the bylaws which were approved at our AGM in June, as requested by Corporations Canada. The updated version will be presented to the membership and voted at the Business after Hours being held on Thursday, September 5th.
